Vibrations in products are encountered everywhere. Whether they originate from an external source or are related to the product itself, any vibration can lead to damage or defects in products. Some examples are a support that breaks or a connector that briefly stops connecting or a train or truck passing by.

Measuring system to measure vibrations

Vibration damping or dampening of vibrations can have very far-reaching consequences for product design. Within ENMO Consultancy, we have an extensive measurement system in-house to measure vibrations. We then look mainly at the cause. Based on these results, we can think along with you about what kind of damping is needed to reduce vibrations.

Insights into vibrations

When vibration measurements have been carried out, either with one or several vibration transducers, it is often possible to gain insight into what is vibrating based on the behaviour or transmission function. Which parts vibrate at a certain frequency and what is the source excitation in the product. The measurement is often performed under different conditions so that an insight can be given when extreme values or changes in the product occur and vibration damping is required depending on the condition. Another consequence may be after performing vibration measurements, vibration damping has such an impact on the product that a complete re-design is required.

Reducing vibration by vibration damping

When reducing vibration and implementing vibration damping, it is important to have a clear realistic goal in mind beforehand. Vibrations are always there, will always remain there but can be reduced in many cases. This depends on many factors, such as technical possibilities but also costs. How much room is there to apply relatively heavy vibration damping within the product.
